Team USA Squeaks Out A Win Against Belgium

In a nail biter game, Team USA eked out a victory over Belgium in Antwerp in the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying tournament.

 In a tight game, Team USA pulled out a victory with a buzzer beater for an 81-79 win. At one point, Team USA was down 13 points. Breanna Stewart helped secure a victory with a layup in the last 3 seconds. Napheesa Collier led with a fantastic 23 points off the bench and 7 rebounds. Team USA will play Nigeria today at 9am PT. 

Team USA will also play Senegal on Sunday at 10:15am PT. 

Geno Auriemma picks up his 1,200th win as UConn defeats Seton Hall 

UConn women's basketball coach Geno Auriemma becomes only the third Division I coach to surpass 1,200 wins, joining former Duke men's coach Mike Kryzyzewksi (1,202) and Stanford women's coach Tara VanDerveer (1,206).Auriemma has dominated Big East conference play while at UConn, winning 21 straight games against Big East opponents, with his most recent loss coming to Marquette in February 2023.

"I could probably say, with a great deal of certainty, that I'll never be No. 1 in wins, I don't think that will happen," he said. "And I'm still going to enjoy my wine and I'm going to sleep good tonight."

Auriemma transformed UConn from a program with only one winning season before his arrival in 1985 into a consistent title contender. In addition to their 11 titles, the Huskies have advanced to 22 Final Fours and had six perfect seasons. Since 1992-93, none of Auriemma’s teams have won fewer than 25 games in a season.

Hannah Hidalgo breaks the ACC record for the most steals by a freshman

Notre Dame freshman Hannah Hidalgo has been a menace on defense all season long for the Irish. Hildalgo's seven thefts for the Irish brought her total to 113, breaking Marion Jones' freshman record of 111 set with North Carolina in 1993-94. 

Hidalgo is 9 steals away from breaking Skylar Diggins Smith's all-time Notre Dame steal record, and she is also the fastest Division I player to earn 100 steals in the last 25 years.

The Freshman guard is averaging 24.8 points which is third in scoring and 5.05 steals per game which is first in the nation.
