Pearl Moore Speaks Out On Caitlin Clark
As Caitlin Clark breaks records, we must always honor the legends that preceded her success.
Pearl Moore Opens Up About Iconic “What About Pearl Moore?” Sign In New Interview
SOUTH CAROLINA – When a young woman at a South Carolina Women’s Basketball game held up her phone with the text “What about Pearl Moore?” – it sent shockwaves through sports media as Caitlin Clark climbed the records to become the all-time leading women’s basketball NCAA scorer, passing Kelsey Plum.
Moore is often overlooked in this achievement as she earned her record in the now defunct AIAW which has been replaced by the NCAA. That being said, Moore’s historic contributions to women’s hoops cannot be overlooked.
Pearl Moore is a legend in South Carolina who currently holds the AIAW record for the most points scored in a college career. She accomplished this historic achievement before the 3-point line was invented, leading her to rack up a shocking 4,061 points.
Caitlin Clark continues to make history, passing Lynette Woodard for a major college record
NEW: Iowa coach Lisa Bluder condemns NCAA for ignoring historic scoring records.
She says Lynette Woodard's record is the real scoring record that should be honored.

Three games after shattering Kelsey Plum's NCAA Division I women's scoring record, Caitlin Clark is still making history. Clark eclipsed Lynette Woodard's women's major scoring record in the fourth quarter, hitting her eighth three of the night in front of a sell-out crowd at Williams Arena. In a rematch between two of the top three teams in Big Ten Indiana would dominate the Hawkeyes.
"I think it just speaks to the foundation that these players have laid for us," Clark said of past stars such as Woodard. "To have opportunities, to be able to play in environments like this, in front of crowds like this.
"I wouldn't have the opportunity to be able to do what I'm doing every single night if it wasn't for people like her. There are so many great players across the board. I'm just really thankful and grateful to have those people that have come before me."
Woodard was a great basketball player at Kansas from 1977 to 1981. She competed before the NCAA and set an Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women record with 3,649 total points. Woodard reached her amazing scoring milestone before the three-point line was introduced in 1986.
Clark also surpassed the NCAA single-season 3-pointer record in Wednesday's game with 156 this season. She was also the first Big Ten Conference women's basketball player to make over 500 three-pointers in her career.
Clark also recorded her 17th triple-double of her career, with 12 assists and 10 rebounds to go with 33 points. She is second only to Oregon's Sabrina Ionescu, who has 26 triple-doubles from 2016 to 2020. Clark recorded her sixth triple-double scoring at least 30 points, the most in Division I history. Iowa has won every game in which Clark had a triple-double.
Next up Clark will go for the Pete Maravich record needing just 18 points in Iowa’s final regular season game on Sunday against No.2 Ohio State.
UConn's Aaliyah Edwards inks a NIL deal in Canada, but can't talk about it in the US.

STORRS, CT — Aaliyah Edwards, a UConn forward, signed a large name, image, and likeness contract with Adidas Canada this week, but she wasn't permitted to talk to reporters in Connecticut about it on Tuesday for fear of jeopardizing her student visa. This impacts Edwards, who is from Kingston, Ontario, because international players are not permitted to profit from large-scale NIL deals in the United States. Instead, they can only get money through passive NIL agreements. Edwards, for example, would make cents on the dollar if her jersey was sold by the university bookshop.
Purdue's Zach Edey (Canada) and another Huskies star Nika Muhl (Croatia) are in similar positions as Edwards. So did former National Player of the Year winner Oscar Tshiebwe (Democratic Republic of Congo), who earned NIL money (reportedly $500,000) on a weeklong trip to the Bahamas in 2022.Edwards, who averages more than 19 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Huskies, said Tuesday that her decision will be focused on basketball and meeting the goals she has set for herself and her teammates. However, she recognized that money is also a consideration.
“Maybe a little bit,” Edwards said. “It’s a little influence. But it’s really about the team.”
Adidas would not disclose the terms of Edwards' NIL arrangement, but a spokesperson told The Associated Press Tuesday that the business is "being respectful of the NIL rules and Aaliyah will only participate in Canada during her NIL Adidas Canada deal." UConn Huskies coach, Geno Auriemma, stated that he would like to see Congress approve an exception to student visa requirements that would allow international students to earn at least grocery money, regardless of whether they are athletes. The topic has captured the interest of Connecticut's two United States Senators, Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, who have both advocated for increased compensation for collegiate sports.
“If they can find a way to get these people treated the same as every other student athlete, great,” Auriemma said.
